AGS Military Heritage:
Service to our Country by Members, Ancestors, Family

Compiled and edited by Patricia T. Eker

Preface

In 2003 the Albuquerque Genealogical Society (AGS ) – AGS Veterans Honor Roll project and series in the AGS Quarterly newsletter was created as a way for AGS members to remember and honor our veterans – AGS members, ancestors and family members. We published lists of our veterans with basic service information summaries and a few of their stories in the AGS Quarterly. This book is a compilation of those lists with a few ‘lost and found’ entries, information updates and additional stories and lots of photos that we did not have room to publish in the Quarterly. It includes veterans from all over the United States who served from the Colonial Wars and colonial militia to active and reserve service in 2015.

The information about veterans in this book was submitted by AGS members – genealogy researchers and contributors. Most of our AGS members are not professional genealogists and are sharing this information based on their personal research and knowledge. No references were requested; however, many members cited references and included facts that should be able to help other researchers find documents and resources. The information provided is extremely valuable as a source of compiled genealogy data, as a source of leads to resources, and for the personal stories provided by our members.

Military genealogical research is not easy. I want to sincerely thank and commend our members for their devoted research and contributions to this effort!

This book was compiled and edited for the AGS members who shared information about their veterans and articles about their ancestors and research. Hopefully it will be handed down through their families so their research and pride in their military heritage will be shared with future generations.

Disclaimer: The information included in this book is based on each genealogist’s research for his or her families and no attempt has been made to verify each entry. A few veterans were entered in more than one issue; note added photos or updated information. No effort was made by the compiler to substantiate or prove service records unless something was noted as being historically impossible. If using data for your own research, please treat as secondary sources or family data and substantiate with cited primary resources or your own research. The information for a veteran included in this book should give you some facts, some great research leads and some fantastic personal stories!
