Since 1972, the Albuquerque Genealogical Society has been committed to these three objectives:
- Promote genealogy and the importance of understanding our family histories;
- Help educate genealogists and others in how to research family history; and
- Support the genealogical collection (the “Genealogy Center”) and services of the Albuquerque/Bernalillo County Library System as a way to help our community explore family history.
Examples of how AGS met these objectives in 2021 include:
- Eight programs presented by AGS members and well-known speakers such as Robert S. Burch Jr., Dr. Penny Walters, Judy Russell aka “The Legal Genealogist”, and Sunny Morton;
- A DNA/Celtic Conference in April with the following highly respected speakers: Fiona Fitzsimons, Dr. James Mallory, Chris Patton, Paul Milner, Karen Standbury, and Dr. Maurice Gleeson;
- Ten ABCs of DNA programs on various topics;
- Monthly meetings of the DNA SIG and Celtic Research SIG, as well as the newly-formed African American Research SIG;
- Twice-a-month online one-on-one sessions to assist AGS members and others with their genealogy research;
- Beginning genealogy classes, four each in both the spring and fall; and
- In September, the Last Tuesday Research Day was resumed as an in-person event.
In support of the Genealogy Center in 2021, AGS also . . .
- Donated $1,000 to to purchase forty-six valuable, high-quality, out of print books from the estate of an avid genealogist;
- Donated fifteen journal subscriptions/society memberships and purchased back issues of eight issues of the Missouri State Genealogical Association Journal;
- Raised funds for book purchases using eBay sales and the Amazon Smile program; and
- Spent 549 hours (by AGS member volunteers) at the Genealogy Center assisting with special projects and helping individuals with their genealogy research projects.
AGS is an all-volunteer-run, tax-exempt organization that endeavors to be open and accessible to all individuals interested in family history. Your generous donation will support us in our efforts to continue to meet these objectives, and look for innovative ways to help educate genealogists and others interested in family history.
