Welcome to the Home Page of the Albuquerque Genealogical Society
The object of the Albuquerque Genealogical Society (AGS), a non-profit organization founded in 1972, is to:
provide educational aid for genealogical researchers; and
support the genealogical collection and services of the Albuquerque and Bernalillo County Public Library.
The Society offers informative monthly meetings, frequent workshops, and classes for beginning genealogical researchers. The Genealogy Center on the 2nd floor of the Albuquerque Main Library at 501 Copper NW is the meeting place for the AGS-sponsored Special Interest Groups and Research Days with consultants experienced in various areas of research. All are free and open to the public. The latest information can be found in "Upcoming Events" and "Special Interest Groups."
The Quarterly is a quality publication that we are proud of, published February, May, August, and November. It sponsors an annual "Writing Contest" for members to enter their stories about research, family lore, breaking brick walls or other genealogy-related themes. Winning entries are published in the Quarterly. Members are also encouraged to share brief items of interest or websites they find in their research in the "I discovered. . ." series. An important component in the Quarterly is the "Early Albuquerque Series" about families that settled here at the turn of the century and before, what the times were like in the "olden days" and descriptions of the town when it was small. The Quarterly features articles and tips on research, columns on using computers and DNA in genealogy research as well as a listing of all upcoming events.
We hope this website will get you started in doing your family history research online. If you're not a member, join our Society and receive our Quarterly newsletter either electronically or by mail. Everyone is welcome at our monthly meetings (see Upcoming Events). Whatever your level of experience, AGS Volunteers are available to help at Research Days (see Upcoming Events – Research Days) and on many other days at varying hours. If you're a beginner at genealogical research, stop by the Genealogy Center in the Albuquerque Main Library and let one of the volunteers help you get started. AGS sponsors an annual series of classes on the basics of genealogy research.
The Genealogy Center computers may be used by anyone with an Albuquerque/Bernalillo County Public Library card for free access to numerous online genealogical databases such as American Ancestors, Ancestry, Family Search, Fold 3, Heritage Quest, Newspaper Archive, Sanborn Maps, World Vital Records and many others. The Genealogy Center also has a vast collection of books and materials with local, national and international information. AGS donates books and resources to this collection.
Limited FREE parking is available in nearby parking facilities. Click on PARKING to learn more.
Remember, the research you do today will benefit all the future generations of your family. This research will be part of your legacy.
