Gettysburg

August 1, 2023

Gettysburg was one, if not the, defining battle of the Civil War. It was Lee's chance to take the fight to the Northern States. Two converging armies would clash at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The outcome was not certain at the time who would win. Host Stuart Murray will take you on trip through the battlefield and also the changes it brought to burials and how the Union changed treatment of battlefield causalities. Two handouts are available. One is the slideshow presentation and the other are photographs of the Gettysburg National Park (partial).

The Albuquerque Genealogical Society Military Research Special Interest Group hosted by Stuart Murray talks about the styles of various uniforms for the U.S. Army and Navy. Bill Overmier - Bataan NM Guard POW Survivor's Story

The Albuquerque Genealogical Society Military Research Group presents Bill Overmier's POW survivor story as told by his daughter-in-law Cynthia Vaughan. Bill Overmier was a member of the New Mexico National Guard present in the Philippines at the beginning of WW2 when the Japanese invasion began. It is his story as a survivor as a Japanese POW including video clips of him describing the conditions and experiences.
