Fall 2023 Beginner Genealogy Classes
There will be five classes over five weeks beginning on Monday, October 16th as follows:
October 16, 2023 | Class #1: How to Begin Your Genealogy – From the Start or From Where You Are
Want to start or restart your family tree this year? Beginners come at all levels. We’ll talk about terms, forms you can use, and how to proceed. Bring your questions! Includes brief discussion of DNA tests.
October 23, 2023 | Class #2: Census Records
Many countries have taken censuses of their population. We’ll talk about the most commonly used ones, including where to access them online, mostly for free.
NOTE: If you are in the Albuquerque area, be sure to get or renew your library card before class, as some of the sources are on the library website. You will have to do this in person at your nearest branch.
October 30, 2023 | Class #3: Online Research
Yes! We will talk about websites, including free ones. Pros and Cons of Pay sites. How to evaluate what you find.
November 6, 2023 | Class #4: Genealogy Software – How to Choose and Use It
Many people use online sites to create and store their family trees. A lot of us like to have a program on our own computers so we know who added the information. No one can change data in your own program. There is one exception and we will discuss the relationship between Ancestry.com® and Family Tree Maker®.
November 13, 2023 | Class #5: Organization
Now that you have found some data, how do you store it? What do you do with all those paper copies? How can you find images you have saved to your hard drive? These questions and more (plus some answers) will be discussed in this class.
