As Halloween approaches, so does the number of cemetery walking tours. Most of us are staying socially distanced and usually that would mean no tours, but this year there have been a lot of virtual options being advertised.
If you have never been on a cemetery walking tour, they can be a lot of fun. The adage a “DeadMan Tells no Tales” never met a Genealogist! Or a Historian. The tour guides give historical context to the cemetery and the people buried there. They can range from someone pointing out historical graves to full period costumes to lantern lit spooky ghost stories.
Here is a short list of some tours happening in the next month but look to see if your favorite cemetery is hosting an event:
- Evergreen Cemetery Walk, McClean County, ILL
- Congressional Cemetery Virtual Visit, Washington, D.C.
- Catholic Cemeteries, New Orleans, LA
- Bluff City Cemetery Walk, Elgin, ILL
- North Bay Virtual Cemetery Tours, San Francisco Bay Area
