TITLE: How to Use DNA to Build Your Tree

PRESENTER: AGS member Philip Spivey

DESCRIPTION: We often hear about DNA being a useful tool for building a family tree. However, many people get bogged down with science. AGS member Philip Spivey will do a presentation on How To Use DNA To Build Your Family Tree, but unlike most basic DNA presentations, the emphasis for this one will be on application rather than the science behind the DNA.

You don’t have to know what a hammer is made of to use it and the same can be said for DNA. So, if you have been put off by the science, or just want a refresher on putting DNA to work for you, join us on February 18th. Philip would like to encourage you to think about genealogical questions you have been wanting DNA to help you answer and bring those questions with you.

View Phil’s handout.

PRESENTERS: AGS members Lark Robart (Part 1) and Marty Brady (Part 2)

DESCRIPTION: Marty and Lark will discuss the steps they took to identify DNA matches on their respective Irish lines, which eventually led to successful visits to Ireland in 2022 to visit their areas of research, make new discoveries, and meet newly-identified cousins.
