Meet our new AGS President for 2025!

Please allow me to introduce you to our new President for 2025, Margaret Abbey Ashman Shannon, also known as Molly.

Molly has had a diverse career in interior design, and as an ordained United Methodist clergywoman. She also owned a quilt-making and finishing business and still maintains an Etsy shop: Serenity House Quilts. Currently, she works part-time at St. John’s United Methodist church and plans to retire (again) before her 70th birthday in June of this year.

A mother of three grown sons, Molly and her husband Richard are grandparents to five incredible young people. And they share their home with a tiny terrior-ist named Oliver!

Molly’s interest in genealogy began at a young age, wondering how she was related to those people in the old photographs. This curiosity blossomed into a serious pursuit in 2012 when life took her to Phoenix where she  discovered the Irish Cultural Center, driven by a desire to learn more about her paternal grandmother, who was born and raised in Ireland.

Since returning to Albuquerque in 2015, Molly has been an active AGS member, assisting with hospitality, welcoming members and visitors, and participating in the writing and publishing special interest group, resulting in the publication of two volumes of her family history, with a third in progress. Way to go, Molly!

She has also achieved considerable success with her DNA testing . . . but is still working on breaking down that one brick wall!

Molly is eager to meet more of you, both on Zoom and in person, to learn from speakers and workshops, and to get back into her own research and writing.

Welcome to the AGS Board, Molly!
