Detention and POW Camps in New Mexico

This presentation is about the Detention and POW camps in New Mexico. The host Stuart Murray’s presentation shows where the Japanese were imprisoned and why. The POW camps were to house the Italian and German POWs captured and brought to the United States during WW2. These camps no longer exist and are just memories. They still played an important part of New Mexico’s history. Mr. Victor Yamada provides additional commentary about the Japanese Internments at the end of the presentation.

The Albuquerque Genealogical Society Military Research SIG welcomed Scott G. Hibbard, author of Beyond the Rio Gila, historical fiction about the Mormon Battalion. His presentation focused on the enlistment of the 500 Mormon men and their march from Iowa to Fort Leavenworth through New Mexico, Arizona, and to San Diego during the Mexican–American War.
