DESCRIPTION:\n\n\n\nThe ABCs of DNA is an ongoing series of in-depth presentations on various DNA topics, presented by well-known speakers as well as knowledgeable AGS members.\nTopic: Finding unknown parents: How adoptees are using genealogy and DNA to identify their biological parents\n\n\n\nPresenter: Philip Spivey holds an MBA degree in International Management from Thunderbird. After morethan 30 years in media, marketing and international business, he is now semi-retired andfocusing on his passion for genealogy. He is a professional genealogist doing family historyresearch, biological family identification for adoptees and investigative genetic genealogy.His educational background in genealogy includes a Genealogical Research Certificate fromBoston University, a Certificate in Irish Genealogy from University College Cork in Cork, Ireland.He has attended numerous conferences, courses and seminars, including the Salt Lake Instituteof Genealogy and is currently pursuing certification with the Board for Certification ofGenealogists. He is a member of the National Genealogical Society, the Association ofProfessional Genealogists and several state and local societies, including the AlbuquerqueGenealogical Society and the New Mexico Genealogical Society. He is the current Past President ofthe Albuquerque Genealogical Society.\n\n\n\nDescription: This presentation will explore the techniques used for combining DNA evidence with genealogical research.
